There are really two parts to your issue here. How to point to different DNS
servers (very easy) and how do I ensure that the new DNS server have all the
correct information (if you lose your SRV records AD is seriously broken).
Pointing to new DNS servers is simple. Just change your DNS settings in your
IP configuration. The transfer of DNS information is more difficult. There
are several ways to do this. One would be to do a zone transfer from the old
DNS server to your new servers. If you have lots of cname records, txt
records or other non-dynamic records, this would be your best bet, and this
is probably the safest way to handle things. If you don't have these, as
long as your new DNS servers allow dynamic registration, pointing one of
your DCs to the new DNS server issuing an "ipconfig /registerdns" command,
then stopping and restarting the netlogon service should register the DC and
the SRV records. As long as the DNS server allows dynamic registration
stopping and restarting netlogon is supposed to reregister the SRV records
for the DC. Warning: I have seen this not work, so if you try this method,
do one and check to see that the SRV records are written before you try the
other.

Subject: [IMail Forum] OT: Help With Active Directory Stuff

Hello All,

Sorry for the off-topic, but I know there are allot of Windows Admins on
here.

Basically, we have a domain setup for our servers with 2 domain controllers.
When they were originally setup, they were setup to use a public DNS server.
We are working to setup 2 internal DNS servers instead and want to tell
Active Directory to use and store its information there instead of the other
DNS servers. I have searched the Knowledge Base and must not be searching
for the right thing as I can not find anything telling us how to tell Active
Directory to move and use the information on these new DNS servers instead.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Secondly, we are going to change the domain controllers around the same time
as we want to make a couple different servers the domain controllers.

Thanks,
