Here's the full session log for that message that shows
creation of the bounce message. I cannot find anything in the 8.22
manual that talks about this or how to suppress the bounce message on oversize
mailboxes or to be able to check mailbox size during the SMTP delivery process.

Mike, you are not understanding something.
If the mailbox of a local user exceeds it's configured limits, Imail will
REJECT the incoming message during the receive session. There is no bounce
message created. End of story!
You are either doing something wrong or these are messages that are being
forward somewhere and that mailbox is full.
Please provide the full specific bounce message including headers and the
information for your server so we can show you what is wrong and why this is
happening.
