There would need to be some minor customization of the webmail interface to add in the ads, but that should be fairly easy.  Seems like a good potential product for the need.

We've got a client that wants to offer free email to his town with ads so he can't use Imail. This is why I'm trying to find something that will fit his needs.

Hi,

The general problem with 3rd Party WebMail-Application with IMail is this: The WebMail from IMail is generaly a IMAP Client. So fare, so good, but IMail specific settings will be made directly on the filesystem, e.g Lists, responders and so on. A 3rd Party WebMail will not support every feature which IMail offers. The user should have access to both WebMails which can confuse a user.

btw: I like the new WebMail from IMail 2006.1. It looks nice and it's pretty fast. I hope, that missing things will follow soon.
