Andy
Thanks for the input.
I'll have to check for the .acc file.
I was not aware of the temp to permanent block issue.
This helps a lot.

I'm suggesting that you are aware, that the option "Minutes to Deny Access"
is NOT functional, if at any time you should ever restart Imail and/or your
server. It will turn a temporary block into a permanent block.

If you don't use IMail's access list for permanent blocking at all, you can
delete the .acc file whenever you start/restart Imail, that will delete ALL
blocks.

If you have the intermittent problem of people being unable to send mail,
then there could be many reasons, but certainly, the dictionary attach
feature is one of them. If that happens, go the the Imail log file to the
time when the problem occurred and then search backward for that IP address
to see prior error messages associated with that IP address up to the point
where it last worked.

If you see IMail responding with a 5xx message, then see if the message text
indicates that it was due to too many invalid recipients or other errors -
which would suggest that it's the dictionary attack featue.

If it's one of your clients and they are using SMTP Auth, then I suggest you
contact IPswitch and open a problem report that there MUST be an option to
exempt SMTP AUTH users from the Dictionary Attack (and other anti-spam)
feature.

You can turn off the Dictionary Attack feature by setting the Max Invalid
Recipients, Soft Error, Hard Error, Minutes to Deny and Error Delay to their
documented default values, "0".

Best Regards,
Andy Schmidt
