We are managing a list of users that already exist in an external SQL 7.0 database.
The users are part of a HR/Payroll system that runs on SQL. We created a view to
extract the user information that IMail wants and programmed some triggers to
automatically populate the IMail fields when a user changes. The result is a self
managed system. When an addition/deletion occurs in the payroll system (a new employee
comes), the IMail account exists as part of that employee record in the payroll db.
IT just assigns a password and that's it. I cannot perceive doing this any other way.
It's the only real benefit for being able to use an external database. That's what
it's for, right?
