Frank,
You _definitely_ have something wrong with your system as normal delivery
time for local messages (any version of IMail) is measured in seconds, not
minutes or hours! Even remote delivery should be within a few seconds (for
small messages).
V4.02 did have some problems (sorry, I cannot remember the details, maybe
with forwarding?) and was quickly replaced with 4.03/.04 which was pretty
stable. Are you using 'forwarding' in any form? How about Aliases of the
List Type (with more than 50 email addresses)?
Kind of hard to say what is going on with your system with so little
information. Could be something that is configuration related or even an
outside influence. A 'loop' may be a likely situation, too. If the problem
is configuration related, installing a new version of IMail, won't 'fix' it.
That would take some time in gathering needed data and getting it into the
hands of the support people at Ipswitch.
One thing you can try: Open Task Manager and sort by name, the processes,
looking for SMTP32. If you see one to 5 SMTP32 processes, that is in the
normal range (lower is better). If you see 30, you have hit the maximum
number and that may mean that the processes are not ending in a timely
fashion. If you use the kill.exe from the NT Resource Kit and 'kill smtp32',
that will stop all the current processes and now if you send a new message,
it should be sent almost immediately.
