Seriously, we've experienced that same problem here with AOL v5.0 which upon 
installation "reclaims" all of the users mail and browser settings away from any other 
previously configured ISP setups.  The simplest work-around we've found is to reset 
the browser to its default settings.  In IE, you can go through Tools/Internet 
Options/Advanced - "Restore Defaults"

    We've inherited a new problem with our 2,000 free accounts to the local
sports league.  We have received several complaints that users can not
log-in to web mail using the AOL browser.  I'm at a loss on this one,
haven't touched AOL in 10 years or more.  Any suggestions on a work around
on this?
