I don't know what error 5 is, but I can tell you that NT's ability to use
the modem has no bearing whatsoever on IPSwitch's ability to use it. Their
modem routines are very basic and very specific... we had to go through 4
different modems to find one that worked. Finally settled on a Zoom... even
after 2 versions of the recommended USR. I had requested that they add
features to allow for better control of the modem & init strings, but sadly
they seem uninterested in any development in this area.
Short answer: You are probably looking at a problem where your modem is not
compatible.
You may be able to solve it by programming your modem with another program,
or you may need to choose a different modem.
This reflects my experience with their email to fax services... I have yet
to get the messenger services to work at all. That doesn't mean that it
won't work, just that I haven't had the time to grind through it...
definitely not a simple process.
Hope this helps,
_Pete

Subject: [IMail Forum] Open Error 5
Hello List
I have a problem with the beeper/pager server in IMail 6.03:
When trying to send a msg to a mobile phone using SMS, the log reports:
Sending Message to <destination number> via <service number> on COM1
Open Error 5
xxxxxxxx thread exiting to retry
...which I can not find in the manual (WinNT Dialer and RAS works - so the
modem should be ok).
Does anyone know what Error 5 is?
Thank you
Christian
