FYI, you *can* do this with Hotmail (probably because Microsoft owns it).  In IE5, go 
to Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> E-mail, and you can choose "Hotmail".  I 
don't know if it is possible to put other web sites there (I checked it out a while 
back, but couldn't find any info -- Microsoft usually has a way to do it, if you look 
hard enough though).

My boss was interested in doing that.  I think it was more of a "look and feel" type 
thing, where if you use the browser for E-mail, you might as well be able to click on 
the mail links and use the browser for E-mail.  After all, if someone is using web 
E-mail, they must have some reason for it, even if there are better options.
