They cannot create aliases, unless they are a Host (domain) Admin, and
have added aliases via the webmail interface.

The "root" account is, by default, a User account, and not an Alias.
Most folks just forward it to their regular System admin account.

Check out Ipswitch's knowledge base, in particular this article:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19980116-JB02.htm. You can use Relay
for Addresses only, then for the (hopefully) few users who have
problems, you can add their address to a text file called "accept.txt"
in your root Imail directory, that will allow them to send as well. As
the email client software matures, it will become more rare to encounter
users who cannot set their client to use SMTP Auth.
