I would leave dtproperties alone. Imail will create its own table for the
host. If you do not include a database name (not table, database) that you
wish to use in the DSN as well as the external database config in imail,
then it will create the table in the "Master" database in SQL 7. To use a
specific database use "db=Databasename".
!!!!!!Also, be absolutely sure that when you setup your DSN that you setup a
SYSTEM DSN (there is more than one type). I was getting the check your
config error because I setup a local DSN by mistake.
Also be sure to refresh the database once your error goes away, or the table
will not show. I am using sql 7 on a second machine. I add a host to
imail. Then I setup the config. Then I add a user thru imail. Now, when I
goto my sql database, I have to select the database and refresh to display
the new table that imail creates with the [default] setting. The name will
be mail_host_com if you use the mail.host.com format, or just host_com for
the host.com format. The table will appear.
Check your DSN, it may not be setup correct, or perhaps it was not setup as
a system DSN. Also be sure to create an account that has access
read/write/create rights to the database. This username and password must
also be passed through the external database config in imail.
If you want a sample, search the imail knowledgebase on "sql dll" and you
will find an example config with the proper syntax for imail config.
Good luck

Thanks for the quick response.
Here is what I did:
1) Got Niceman's dll and installed it per his instructions.
2) Set the domain to use external database.
3) Applied it.
4) I already had a DSN setup for this database.
5) When into configuring the External DB. Told it the dsn name. Left the
table name to [default]
6) Added a user via Imail Admin
7) It added a user.
8) Looked at SQL 7 Enterprise Manager - noticed a new system table created
called dtproperties.
9) Had access look at it to see if there were any values. Nope, dead blank.
10) Went back into Imail Admin, checked the config of the db. Changed it
from [default] on the table to dtproperties. Can't add a user. I then
tried dbo_dtproperties. Same thing, can not add a user.
Now the interesting thing as well. Is that all these users that it can not
create are created somewhere. When I try to add that name again, seeing
that it failed, admin tells me that there is a name already taken.
Ideas?

David:
First, to use SQL 7, get 'niceman' DLL. Works great. Find in the list the
link.
Second, create the domain, set to use Ext DB, but DO NOT CONFIGURE IT.
Apply, save et all.
Third, get into the domain with IMAIL Admin again, and THEN configure the
DB. Must be defined prior the System DSN, and with the proper rights if in
another box. ( ie Admin rights for each service POP3, SMTP and Web ).
Will create alone the table in the DB you pointed out in the DSN (default is
domain_com table ) with the proper columns. You can add later more columns
if you need.
good luck
The flags are explained in the database. 128 is the normal set.

Asunto: [IMail Forum] SQL Integration
Hello,
I am new to the list and am evaling Imail. We are looking to do a front end
system for Imail that would require use of SQL Server. What I am trying to
do is to configure Imail to use an external db. There seems to be very
little documentation out there on it. I searched the KB and found out the
field names. I created a table, created an ODBC connection. I went into
Imail admin and chose the the table/db. Now when I go to add a user, it
tells me to check the external database settings.
What I am looking for is some more info! How do you get this to work, what
is the schema. How do you store the flags?
Thanks.
dave
