SQL Server 7 (w/ Mike Nice's custom .DLL) works fine for me (and a lot
others) but it's not an inexpensive solution. I already had a SQL Server
available for my use. I would have never been able to justify purchasing it
if it's sole use was for IMail.
MySQL is another database server that you might look in to. It's free (open
source like linux), but you'll have to figure it out yourself.
You can use pretty much any datasource that is ODBC compatible as an
external database, just realize that IMail is going to be hitting it hard
and often. I have a SQL Server available for my use. I would have never been
