You need to configure your FrontPage extensions with the address of an SMTP
server. It can be "localhost" if you are using IIS and IMail on the SAME
server, or it has to be the address/FQDN of any SMTP server (e.g., IMail).
In FP 2000 you do that in the MMC. In FP 98 I believe there used to be an
.INI files or may be a registry that you had to manually set up.
The FP Server Extension resource kit has all the relevant information.

Absolutely NOT necessary. And for load balancing not even recommended.
All you have to do is make sure, that you somehow don't have the IIS server
"blocked" in Imail's SMTP security options.
