I need to move a domain (one domain only in this Imail
server) to another Imail server.
I previously used method (1) below successfully, but
this time, the backup registration file is big (7MB),
and (because of this file is too big?) the "Restore
IMail Registry" failed. Has anyone experienced similar
problems?

Does method (2) below achive the same goal? I notice
that the exported registry file using method (2) is
about half the size of the file from method (1). Is
method (2) more reliable? What needs to be edited (in
notepad) in the exported registry file? If IP and path
remain the same, there is no need to edit, right?

Thanks in advance for any help. - Kevin

Question/Problem: I want to move my IMail Server to a
new machine.

Answer/Solution: To move an existing IMail
Server to a new machine, first go to IMail
Administrator | localhost | General | Backup on the
old machine. (In versions before 6.0 do this in Mail
User Manager.) Backup the IMail registry keys to a
file with a .reg extension (that you name) in the
\imail folder.

Install IMail on the new machine. Both
machines should be running the same version of IMail.
Then copy the IMail folder from the old machine to
the new one. (If you have trouble copying it may be
necessary to stop IMail's services, including Web
Messaging.)

Go to IMail Administrator | localhost |
General | Backup on the new machine. Under the File
menu select Restore IMail Registry... Restore with
the file you created on the old machine.

When you move from one machine to another,
several things can change:
          IP Address
          Hostname
          Drive Letter/Path

You will need to change these in the
registry. Run Regedit. Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\IMail\Domains

There are two kinds of keys under Domains,
IP Address keys, and hostname keys (the Official
Hostname of each domain). Rename the IP address key to
the new IP address. Open the hostname key for the
domain that uses that IP address; change the "Address"
value (that you see on the right side) to the new IP
address.

If you need to change the Drive Letter/Path
open the Global key.

          Important: stop

Question/Problem: How can I move a domain from one
IMail server to another IMail server?

Answer/Solution: There are two parts to a
domain's user accounts, the user's directories (which
can be copied or moved to another server) and what's
in the registry (if the domain uses the IMail user
database).

Create the domain on the new PC. Copy or
move the users directory tree to the new PC.

On the old PC run Regedit. Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\IMail\Domains

The Users key under a domain's hostname key
can be exported to a file (in regedit). One can edit
the file with Notepad. Do search and replace (in
Notepad) to prepare the file for the other machine.
Then, import the file (in regedit) on the
new PC.
and restart the SMTP service after the change.
