if there are delivery failures in you log, like MX connect failure,
that's something else, imo.

It only takes one bad msg to zombie a bunch of SMTP processes. Now if
that one bad msg was sent to a list, then there are 100's or 1000's
of identical bad msgs killing your SMTP processes. shudder
Try the tactic I described earlier and see what happens. What have
you got to lose by hiding the entire queued msgs and rebooting?
