Mike,

Short answer, no. Long answer, IMail does not decrypt (decode) passwords.
>From what I understand, it just hashes them, passes to the process that
checks the hashed password to the stored one (also hashed) and says yea or
nay, then goes from there. this might be different for an external DB
(passwords there are stored in clear text), but should work in a similiar
manner, never needing to decoding the password.

If the user can login on the next attempt (retyping the password) then it
would be most likely that their typing is bad. If the client is setup to
remember the configuration and password, then it would always be 'correct'
(unless the client changes things+ACE-)so should not fail to log them in. That
would be interesting to note, if that login failed+ACE- I would not recommend
that users have their password 'remembered' by their client, but for a test
period, I cannot see where this would be likely to cause any harm.

Subject: +AFs-IMail Forum+AF0- passwords in log file

+AD4- Does anyone know if it is possible to have imail write the users password
+AD4- (when they pop mail) to the log file in clear text rather than xxxxx's as
it
+AD4- does now?
+AD4-
+AD4- Reason being is we sometimes have users who for no apparent reason cannot
+AD4- pop their mail, and without the pw in clear text it's impossible to
+AD4- determine if that is where the problem is at or not.
+AD4-
+AD4- Ipswitch????
+AD4-
+AD4- Perhaps 6.05????
