The 'Fastest' way to get lots of files in the queue, is with a mail 'loop'.
AutoResponders and List Servers together, can cause an explosion of Queue
files. Of course, SPAM, too is often the culprit. So check your SMTP
Security settings and start reading logs and even some of the recent Q and D
files themselves (they are plain text).
I'd suggest stopping the SMTP service, so that no 'connection' to the
outside world is possible (you can leave the cable attached, that way). If
the Queue continues to grow, I'd be surprised (might continue for very short
time, if IMail already has some processes running), but that could indicate
some other method of internal mail generation. I guess, it would not hurt to
then stop POP3, IMAP4 and Web Messaging services, too.
You can rename the \imail\spool dir and create a new one and that would
isolate all Queue files and logs. Now restart the services (for a short
while) and observe the Queue. If it looks normal, great, you can now dig
into the renamed directory for more clues and your system is running again.
If it starts building fast again. then stop the services and dig here. Less
data so you should be able to find the cause quicker.
