Yes..
Platypus NOW has a better solution than earlier for tying the email_data
table into email via the BTImail.exe application and their custom dll,
avaliable from their http://support.boardtown.com site. This is a much
better solution than their previous attempt.
FYI:
Platypus stores all email data (*all domains*) in a single table called
email_data. There is a column called domain or something like that, that
specifies the account for a specific domain. The "problem" is that IMail
expects every domain or virtual domain to be in a seperate table.. What
platypus has done is created a virtual interface in between imail and the
database. This information is hacked into the odbcuser.dll to look in the
registry instead of to sql directly. In the registry is some information
about database connectivity and custom stored procedures that retrieves the
data from the sql server email_data table..
It does make things a bit more confusing.. but it does work.
I have had a lot of experience in this area, and to be honest, I did not
integrate platypus and imail like I explained above. If you look into the
maintenance.. options.. you will see that it is possible to fire off scripts
to external systems based on certain actions.. like new email, email save,
email delete.. etc
It was better, my opinion in my setup, to have platypus fire off external
scripts and execute the adduser.exe on the imail server, rather than setting
up imail to look to the external database... There are positives and
negatives both ways. I also done this BEFORE the new platypus/email
integration setup, which looks promising.
