It's called a gliche. The SMTP Service on IMAIL server has some issues with
SMTP security and is unfortunately unreliable...at least in my findings.
This is not to say that the server is a bad server, just lacking in some
areas. Supposedly this was fixed with the updated version, but I have not
been gutsy enough to update with all the errors everyone has been getting.

The SMTP service died on our server three times last Friday. The same old
symptom. Users call complaining that they are prompted for a password when
sending. I duplicate the problem on our end, check the server and it shows
the SMTP service running and the server appears to be fine, and restart the
service. After the restart everything is fine.
Is there anything new on this problem? The last time I talked to IP Switch
support they said it is a known bug and they are working on it.
