David,

I was thinking a bit and tried something, a telnet session, that tells us
more. Then I did some DNS checking, to see what I might find and that too,
is below.

Telenet session: (looks like a new version of Sendmail? Len, do you know??)
220 talbiz.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.8.8/8.8.5; Fri, 29 Dec 2000 13:57:29 -0500

250-talbiz.com Hello xxxx.ipswitch.com [156.21.x.y], pleased to meet you
250-EXPN
250-VERB
250-8BITMIME
250-SIZE
250-DSN
250-ONEX
250-ETRN

mail from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
553 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Access Denied:Spam not accepted
rset
250 Reset state
mail from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
250 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender ok
This shows that the response is based upon the senders From: address, both
good (stat.com, mail.stat.com) and bad (idf.stat.com).

DNS data:
    nameserver = mail.stat.com.
    nameserver = ns1.crl.com.
    nameserver = ns2.crl.com.
    nameserver = cyclops.net-foundry.com.
    nameserver = ns2.cairns.com.
    207.211.1.10
    50, b.mx.crl.com.
   10, mail.stat.com.
    20, idf.stat.com.
    30, mail.hethmon.com.
    40, a.mx.crl.com.

mail.stat.com.
    207.211.1.10

10.1.211.207.in-addr.arpa.
    host = stat.com.

idf.stat.com.
    207.211.1.100
100.1.211.207.in-addr.arpa.
    host = idf.stat.com.

I did not check any delegation or any of your DNS servers. I used mine and
this is what it returned.

Your IMail server:
207.211.1.100 (2nd highest MX)
220 X1 NT-ESMTP Server idf.stat.com (IMail 6.05 207-1)

Other Mail servers:
207.211.1.10 (from MX record for mail.stat.com)
No answer - Not good, as this is the highest priority MX record (unless that
host is currently down or you are in a 'transition' of some kind).
I did not check any lower priority MX hosts!

Summary:
Looks like they are only rejecting the idf.stat.com host and accepting
stat.com. Not sure why. Both have what appear to be PTR records, so that
would not seem to be the problem (and not the usual Sendmail response for
that problem - 'domain must resolve'). Looks like it is a specific hostname
block, to me. Or if this is a new version of Sendmail, some 'new'
configuration (just a guess, but 'feels' like one, to me - AOL uses Sendmail
servers, too)?

Check your logs some more for problems of this nature but to other domains
(try searching on the sendmail response 'spam not accepted' or the '553'.
Are they all to Sendmail servers? Are they also of this version? Do you see
other, earlier versions of Sendmail servers accepting this lists email?

WorkAround:
You could comtemplate changing the 'Official Host Name' of the domain now
named idf.stat.com, as a 'workaround'. But before you do, are there any
other domains, in IMail, that have 'stat.com' in or as part the 'OHN'?
Probably should also know the primary IP address and Host and Domain names
(TCPIP settings), for this computer. Good idea to check (include a copy) the
HOSTS file (it will need modification), too. Oh, and just to be safe,
backups of the IMail registry branch (disk data too, if you are a
'worrier'). Without knowing your exact current configuration I would
recommend the backups. But in reality, can probably make the needed changes
in just a few minutes, with very small risks (it been done before, lots of
times, just have to do it RIGHT the first time!). Several KB articles and
the archive can give you more info, so I don't have to type it here.
