Eyes closed, hands in pockets ...... problem verified!!!   :)))

"<" and ">" are important symbols in the SMTP "envelope" (ie, the 
"mail from:", "rcpt to:" SMTP commands exchanged between SMTP clients 
and servers) so if you have a maverick one, your envelope is busted.

Easy to spot, easy to fix.
