You need to lock down your server (so that it isn't an open relay) now.
Mail relaying is when people use your server to send their outgoing E-mail. It's a
good thing if they are your customers, a bad thing if they are not.
If you wait, you will get found by a spammer.

If by "forwarding" you mean incoming E-mail is forwarded to an external address, that
should be fine. The incoming E-mail will be accepted (all incoming E-mail is
accepted, no matter what your relay settings are). WebMail doesn't (usually) use SMTP
to send its mail, so it should bypass the relay settings.

If you set IMail to use "No mail relay", spammers shouldn't be able to send mail
through your server. Just don't be a sucker and fall for the "Relay for local hosts"
option; that just means that spammers have to pretend to come from your domain in
order to use your server.
If you want your users to be able to send outgoing E-mail with their own mail clients
(not using web mail), then you should use "Relay for addresses" and SMTP AUTH for
people who aren't coming from a trusted IP address.
