Just a quick summary of the response I received on
the "invisible" mail problem. The feedback was the full range from
"yes, we fight this all the time" to "oh, occasionally, we spot it" to "not
here, never had a problem." This can either be seen as good (the problem
is not a widespread as it seems) or bad (a large-scale problem would force
Ipswitch into immediate action). My conclusions are:
1. IMail may have problems parsing headers of
messages being retrieved by IMAP.
2. The exact parsing problem seems to vary by IMail
version -- for example, I see a problem with commas in the To: line display
name, while someone else saw a problem with quotes instead.
3. There doesn't seem to be any fix for this,
except to install a version that doesn't have this problem. Unfortunately,
I haven't been able to definitely determine whether 6.06 has this problem.
4. Ipswitch still won't talk about or even
acknowledge it.
Thanks to everyone that responded!
