We have the same problem (NT 4.0, SP6, IMail v.6.00, Thawte SSL cert, Linux Firewall).
Our lightly loaded server seems
to experience this about once a week so it sounds like it may be load dependent. I
noticed that if I do a Netstat
command while IMail-SSL is hung that there is always a "CLOSE_WAIT" connection (The
remote end has shut down, waiting
for the socket to close). I believe that this is part of a "ESTABLISHED -> CLOSE_WAIT
-> LAST_ACK -> CLOSED" TCP socket
sequence. So...perhaps the LAST_ACK is never received (maybe a user has disconnected
prematurely) and that is enough to
confuse IMail's SSL handler.
IPSWITCH: it is obvious that this is a common and fairly serious problem so I would
strongly encourage you to
investigate further.
Thanx.
