Yes, we tried Interbase. We got it to work under ver 6.02. In fact, it still
works. However, if you patch above that, it stops working, we never invested
the time to figure out what changed in the odbcuser.dll or the way it is
referenced. Besides, you have to do a lot of things with Interbase you don't
have to do with MSSQL. 'USerName' is not the same thing as 'username' and
you have to recompile the ODBCUSER.DLL because (for e.g.) PASSWORD is a
reserved word and cannot be used as a valid field.
It is small stuff but it adds up in the long run for
maintenance/compatibility.
I don't know if we are doing something wrong, but one of our Interbase
databases stops working efficiently after about 1.6GB has been reached. The
old MSSQL 6.5 database at 2.6GB works just fine.
