We just investigated this issue. The problem seems to be with Linksys
NICs. We had one and installed it on a server, only to find it crashing
when someone would download mail (similar to a problem someone else had
with a Linksys card). We downloaded the latest drivers, which seemed to
help at first, but the problem continued. These were good ole' BSOD's (on
NT, not 2000, though).
I had seen a post in the forums and searched for it, and changing to 3Com
cards fixed the problem for them. In our case, we switched to a Sohoware
card since it was the only other one we had here, but it worked out fine.
The moral of the story: Don't use Linksys cards on a server. We used them
years ago (circa 1995) with great success, but for some reason they just
don't seem to work like they used to.
