So you did get a bounce when you were not the moderator, that is good! In a
'subscriber only' list, users might get a similar bounce message, but
stating something like 'you are not a subscribed user' if IMail did not
recognize their email address.
As for SMTP setting, please make sure it is not set to 'Refuse Null Senders'
as you and your users will not get the normal bounce messages and that will
severely limit your troubleshooting ability (to say nothing of not knowing
if you mail is not delivered!). Yes, the list can send to the local users,
but if Refuse Null is enabled, you as moderator, will not get the bounce
message for the users it did not deliver to! And the bounce message will
likely tell you what the problem was! Your address has nothing to do with
the bounce messages, except as the destination (but if Refuse is enabled,
IMail never gets the bounce to deliver to you!!!).
No, I don't need your list of tests and results, but Support might. By all
means contact them if you believe there is a 'bug'. I don't, but your
symptoms are pretty strange and do not match any I have ever seen or heard
about. I have fixed a few 'strange ones' by deleting the list and creating a
new one of the same name. Although that seems to only happen on the first
list in a domain. Worth a try as the files used by the list are not deleted
(you can back them up first, just to be safe), and will be used once the
same list is recreated.
While reading this once more, a thought came to mind... What do you have in
the user.lst and user.txt files for this list? I wonder if you have only
usernames, rather than complete email addresses (one per line, <CRLF>
terminating each line, no 'spaces' in user.lst). If you have only usernames,
then that might cause delivery problems for the list.
