I didn�t see the rec, but I bet it was for SMTP AUTH for sending mail,
which has nothing to do with POP3 login.
ie, I think you should have just checked "no relay" or "relay for
addresses" and UN checked "disable SMTP AUTH announcement" and NOTHING to POP3.
