After you enter "DATA<CR>", you enter any applicable headers, followed by a 
blank line, followed by the message body, and finally "<CR>.<CR>".  (the 
"<CR>" is really CRLF, but since you are typing it, you just hit RETURN/ENTER).

For example:

         DATA
         Subject: Test

         This is a test message
         .

That's all.  It won't produce a completely RFC-compliant E-mail (it needs 
more headers), but will be deliverable and readable by most mail programs.
