I have a 3 servers that host websites and email for others ( friends). Now
I have 2 Name servers listed with Network Solutions
ns1.activeinfosystems.com 207.228.85.86 and NS2.planetinterlink.com
207.228.126.171.
NS1.activeinfosystems.com is only a DNS server so that true name of this
computer is ns1, but ns2.planetinterlink.com is my mail server and secondary
DNS server, but I have changed the name to mail will this screw things up
from the beginning.?
If I should change the name back to NS1 then can I still have my users
collect pop3 and smtp server be mail.planetinterlink.com ? with a host
record or a CNAME .?
So what I do for my other names that I host is use host records for
www 207.228.126.173 ( this server is the www server
www.planetinterlink.com )
mail 207.228.126.171
Then I have a MX record pointing mail.planetinterlink.com
I have this for all domains that I have on the server.
Everything works for day to day stuff. people get to our sites and email
sends to almost everyone ( some domains like ucalgary.ca can not get email
to )
If anyone can give me a couple pointer on what I should do with my DNS I
would appreciate it.
