1) create a DOS batch file that calls the ftp script and runs the unzip
command.
I placed it in my F-Prot folder.
--------- getdefs.bat ---------
ftp -s:script.txt
unzip.exe -o macrdef2.zip
-------------------------------
( I got the unzip.exe file from the FreeZip utility that you can get at most shareware sites. You can also download FreeZip from my job's ftp site: ftp://www.mlc.lib.ms.us/pub/mlc/software/misc/freezip.exe. The "-o" option tells it to overwrite existing files without prompting.
2) the script it calls is located in the same folder (you might try ftp.frisk.is instead of ftp1.mirrors.complex.is)
--------- script.txt ---------
open ftp1.mirrors.complex.is
anonymous
(your e-mail address goes here)
cd pub/
bin
hash
prompt
get macrdef2.zip
quit
----------------------------
3) I've only had F-Prot for a few days so I don't know if the file name changes often or not. If if does, I'll try to come up with a way to compensate for that as well.

Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Declude virus, MacAfee or F-prot?I have been told that F-Prot DOS will work without being logged on. This
is done because Imail will call Declude Virus, which will call F-Prot,
without user intervention or being logged on.Can you please share your script or email to me?

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Declude virus, MacAfee or F-prot?Thank you so much!!! I am trying to investigate the F-prot scanner
(whether it runs as a Windows service and if it will auto-update its
virus definition files) at this very moment!! You have saved me some
time, money and headaches trying to figure this out!! Since I'm on a
tight budget and am having to figure this out myself, I'm glad I don't
have to waste $40 on F-Prot for Windows if it's not going to do the job
well.
However, I did create an FTP script that will automatically (using the
Win2k Scheduler) ftp to the F-Prot ftp server, download the file and
unzip it and overwrite the current virus.def and macro.def files. Do you
want me to share the script with you? My question is, is the DOS version
(of F-Prot) as good as the Windows version? Will it do as good a job
since it doesn't recognize long file names?? Can someone share their
opinions/experiences?
Maybe I should take a chance on MacAfee Netshield?

I purchased F-Prot for Windows and wish I got McAfee or Norton! The
F-Prot does not run as a service so I have to keep the server conole
logged on all the time so that F-Prot will get it's updates. Speaking of
updates! There updater program seems to FAIL A LOT! It is not very
forgiving when it comes to the Internet being busy or even there server
being busy so we don't get updated everytime it tries to update. I have
found a lot of viruses that have been released this year are not even
detected by F-Prot! Ouch! :-( Hope this has helped you in making a
choice about what brand to use.
