Per RFC 1123, and as respected by this Imail list and every other one I've ever been on, the Return-Path: header of list messages (via the envelope MAIL FROM:) should be set as the list owner's account. Then, when bounce messages are routed from a null sender (<>) to the Return-Path: address, these bounces should go harmlessly into the owner's mailbox.
Problems can arise if intermediate MUAs or MTAs put their own Return-Path: header in, since it is rarely overwritten. What MUA(s) are you using to post to your list?
