I recently did a defrag analysis on a Win2k 7.05 HF1 mail server and saw
one mailbox that was fragmented over 16,000 times.. Even though my
initial reaction was to laugh, it also prompted the question of what to
do about this problem.

One option is to add a second drive and place the spool folder on the
second drive. This will greatly help reduce fragmentation, but if you
use IMAP you will still see a lot of fragmentation on the primary drive.

I have not been able to successfully defrag a mail server, while online,
with any product that I have tried. They all bomb out.

Any thoughts?
