This another desperate attempt on my part to see if anyone has any ideas on this issue. We started doing relay for addresses and SMTP authentication several months ago. In the last month we are having increasing problems with SMTP authentication "sticking" users will be locked out from authenticating. There clients will just keep giving them a request for password. After awhile it will go away or if we catch it, we stop and restart the smtp process and it clears it up. It appears that the smtp authenication processes get used up and all of a sudden it sticks. Stopping and restarting the SMTP process seems to clear all of the stuck authentications and off it goes for a few hours when it happens again.
There is nothing in the event log or the application log that points to the problem. The Imail log shows nothing. This particular server is Imail 5.0x on an NT4 box with 2 450 MHZ processors and 512MB of ram. Authenication is performed off of a MS SQL 6.5 Database. Load on the CPU is low(5-10%). What is most baffling is that the Imail system has been very stable for several years and now this starts although SMTP authentication is a recent addition to the server. Has anyone seen similar problems? Does version 7.05 have any of these problems? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Chuck Schick Warp 8, Inc.
