I have tried and successfully used the host file if I don't want to IMail 
to send to the A DNS record.  Find a correct MX record for earthlink and 
put it in the hosts file.  IMail looks here first and if it finds the 
domain here it doesn't do a DNS lookup.  That should work.  I have several 
domains that I handle this way (about half dozen).

Downside:  If earthlink changes it's MX record you have to manually make 
the change to the hosts file as well.
