We scrapped a 40K plan to buy hardware and software and all the licenses from Billy Gates and M$ to move to an Exchange 2K server. Instead, we grabbed three vanilla (two P2's and a P3) Dell boxes (2 for Norton Antivirus Gateway - one in and one out, 1 for Imail), spent $1,500 instead on an Adaptec SCSI controller and two 70gig 10,000 rpm Seagate drives. We already had the Imail software that we had played around with but never used on a production box. Took less than 1/2 day for two of us to setup all three boxes and migrate from a dying SLMail server to the Imail server. We figure in hardware and time we spent less that $5,000 for a better solution. Now if we could only get management to split the $35,000 difference with us that we saved the company. Oh wait, back to the real world.
