I've seen complaints on several lists in the last 10 days about greatly 
increased spam from APNIC zones.

It really is a cyber war against both port scanning (you'll have to block 
at ip level at edge router) and mail-abuse (IMGate for those of you with 
sufficient mail volumes, but NOTE:  __ANY__ tiniest MX host can be 
SMTP-DoSsed, so the defense must be an SMTP gateway on the ramparts).

Battle stations everyone, BOFH rules apply until further notice, probably 
forever.

You really, really, really don't want your mailbox server to be your MX host.
