Tor,
We just upgraded from v5.05 to v7.06 and moved to a new Nt server. The
upgrade went smooth. Here are the steps that we followed.
1) Set up new server Dual PIII 800 MHz with 1 Gig Ram
2) Installed v 5.05 on this new server
3) Added the 126 IP address for the mail server (note that the server
is not online i.e connected to the Ethernet cable)
4) Ran a clean up on the old server that deleted all old mail over 30
days old
5) Delete all orphan account from all domains ( this server has been
running for 5 year with very little maintenance)
6) Backed up the registry entries from the old server
7) Restored the registry entries on the new server
8) Took the 30 gig drive out of the old server (This drive held only the
domain & users folders)
9) Drive Copied (or Ghost) the 30 gig to a new 40 Gig hard drive. (Still
had the 30 gig to put the old mail server back live if we had any problems)
10) Installed new 40 gig in new server booted and check everything
11) Stop all IMail services and upgraded to 7.02
12) Upgraded to 7.06 and ran HF1 rebooted new server
13) Connected to Ethernet cable and tested ( We had very few problems
most were thing I forgot. Like turning off smtp auth and not listing all
of the IP address in the relay file)
I hope that this will help you with your change over. Good luck and
let me know if I can help you with any other information.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Migration strategy
> We are running Imail 7.06 with about 30 domains and 800 users.
> I'm going to be replacing the current server box with a new one and I have
some questions regarding our migration strategy.
> If I run the registry backup utility in the i-mail administrator on the
old box, then do a fresh install of I-mail on the new server, how much will
the restore recreate and how much will I need to do manually?
> E.g. should I plan to recreate the domains, move the user folders from the
old server to the new, then run the restore utility? Will the utility also
migrate aliases and passwords?
