Sorry this may be a little of
topic. I am about to build a new server for EMAIL, but need to know
if I understand how the Channels on a SCSI card work. Here are the specs
for the card and hard drives that I was looking at. I was going to
purchase the Adaptec 3400s with 128mb of cache and 4 internal Channels. I
was then going to purchase a 5 Disk Hot Swap Drive Cage. My question
is this could I say use 4 of the Drives for Raid 0+1 and the 5th drive for a
Stand Alone to contain the SPOOL directory? That would take 1 Channel
Right? Then I would have 3 Channels left to use for other Drives, am I
understanding this correctly? Because the 5 Disk Bay would be a waste if I
could not use the 5th drive as a stand alone? Any light on this subject
would help me out greatly.
