There  is  no doubt that you have to be a gateway, since the recipient
is  remote.  The  question  is  why your modification of the Relay for
Addresses  list did not solve the problem. Did you put the internal IP
address,  or perhaps a NATted external address? Have you restarted the
SMTP service?

Outlook  will always be able to relay if it is configured to send SMTP
AUTHentication  credentials,  something  that  many web components are
unable to do.
