This is something of the blind leading the blind, but since it's a slow
Saturday, you might not get a quick reply from somebody who knows something.

You probably don't need your own DNS server.  Use your brother's.  The
number of changes to DNS settings are small and don't happen frequently, and
he'll probaby make them for you. One less thing to learn and administer.

You're already on the same network, so there should few, if any, bandwidth
problems.  And DNS is not much of a CPU hog.

If you do need to set up your own DNS server, then you'll need to wait for
help from somebody smart.
