Since I put our Imail server up I have noticed a ton of attempts to access our mail server on port 113. All of these appear to be from other remote mail servers. After some research I found that port 113 is used by mail transport agents (sendmail in particular) in an attempt to identify the name of the user sending email.
What reason would the remote mail server care about the user who was sending the mail? And if they found this information what do they use it for?
