Len, I know that many *nix utilities have been ported to run (natively) to Win32. I was just poking fun and probably/manifestly didn't do a good job of it. The reason behind my [unfortunate] sarcastic remark is that Ipswitch's IMail Server is Windows-based and, therefore, we should not generally expect IMail admins to be proficient in *nix utilities, great as they might be. I, for one, did not know nor expect that the initial poster, Burzin Sumariwalla, would be able to effect what you described as: "this is eyes-closed stuff for grep, awk, sed, egrep, sort, uniq, tr, etc, etc." (Cf. http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg56691.html). On a tangential note, if I may be allowed, Open Source and free software ( la FreeBSD) are a Good Thing but they do entail a cost in terms of learning time for admins who have purchased a product (IMail ) which runs on Windows. I, for one, do use Unix at work but I am not expecting that other mail admins on this list know about these [ported] utilities, nor their syntax. Getting to know and productively use said utilities required -- at least in my case -- reading more "man" pages than I care to admit :) With due respect for a senior an expert member of this Forum, Guy Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
