I am moving Imail from a box with websites and other stuff to a dedicated
box with just Imail. I have no budget for hardware, but I do have a pile of
stuff I can use. My question is what is the best way to configure the
hardware I have.

Even on the current server with whole bunch of websites and other stuff,
everything is running great. Therefore I am not trying to fix a problem, but
rather pre-emtively move to something that will allow more growth.

Hardware available to use:

1 Compaq 1850R 550 with Maxed memory
1 SMART-2DH RAID Card
2 SMART-2/P RAID Card
Lots of hotswap 18Gig and 9Gig drives

I value redundancy over speed. Therefore I will only consider a
configuration that can survive a hard drive crash.

The 1850 holds 4 drives, and I don't have any other external options.

My thought is to have 2 RAID cards, each running RAID 1. I can use either 2
9gig or 2 18gig drives with each card, depending on my projected space
requirements.

If that makes sense, then the question is what to put on controller 1 and
what to put on controller 2. Another theoretical issue to consider is that
the 2DH has a larger cache.

Thanks for any help,

Paul Navarre
