When you say "meant for an IP address on my network" are they coming
from the 'outside'? If so that's exactly what the loopback hack does.

A packet with a source address of the old IP gets routed to go
out the loopback interface where it gets 'NATed' to the new IP
address and when it comes back in the loopback interface it
gets routed based on the new IP which will send it back out to
the internet.
