SMTP AUTH is designed to prevent unauthorized RELAYING, not local
delivery. It works in IMail exactly as designed. In fact, any
originating MAIL FROM: can send RCPT TO: a local address.

The reason your suggestion is invalid for a public mail server is that
remote mail servers cannot be expected to send AUTH credentials for
your MX record (some can if manually configured, others, like IMail,
can't at all).

You need a better way of controlling spam--try www.declude.com or
imgate.meiway.com, in addition to IMail's kill list and access control
utils. And always, *always* search the archives and KB before posting
in the future.
