Imail 7.13 list problem:

I have a list that we'll call the "abcd_forum" here. I dislike return
receipt or read receipt requests to my lists and want to block them. I see
that most of those requests follow one of two formats in the message header
so I create an inbound rule for the list that forwards the message to
another mailbox if the message contains a return receipt request. Seems
simple enough. The mailbox it is forwarded to has an Auto Response message
that bounces back to the sender telling them to remove the receipt request
and re-post the message. Simple enough? It doesn't work!

It seems that since the list address is an alias instead of a user the
inbound rules are not checked. An inbound rule on a list just doesn't work.
To test this I created a user that forwards incoming messages to the list
alias.. like this: username "abcd" forwards all messages to the list alias
"abcd_forum". I then changed my rules to be inbound domain processing
rules. If I post a message to "abcd" it is distributed to "abcd_forum"
properly, and if I send a message requesting a return receipt to the "abcd"
user it is bounced back as I desire. If I do the same exact process but
send to the "abcd_forum" address the second message doesn't get bounced and
does get posted to the list with the return receipt request. I have the
inbound rule in both the domain processing and list rules. No go.

Then my next thought would be to get all the users to post to the username
"abcd" instead of the list alias "abcd_forum" and my rule would then work.
The problem is that when the list actually sends out the messages the reply
to: in the header is to the list alias "abcd_forum" and not the user "abcd".
My work around is foiled by this "reply to" problem. Even if the message is
sent to the user "abcd" when the message comes out of the list the reply to
will be set to "abcd_forum" instead of just "abcd" and that message will not
be checked if the user replies to that message.

Has anyone found a way to bounce back messages to a list that request a
return receipt? I can do it 'half way', but that's all.

Appreciate your help!

-Joe
