Make sure the account username (for the pop3 settings) is the full email address, not just the part before the @.
If my email account were [EMAIL PROTECTED] which was hosted on mail.anotherexample.com, just putting 'dan' into the account name field of my email client's pop3 config would attempt to check the mailbox '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' (if it exists; if not, there will be no mail). Whereas if I put in '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', I will get the correct mail.
