Translate: I wanted an easy answer without reviewing documentation available. When I was given the job of mail admin here, I got the manual and read it over. Then I looked up the KB. Then I found out about the forum and started reading. > I suppose most of you folks must have iMail servers in dedicated > environments intranet environments. Would you like to explain to me just > how you would apply the latter with a lot of remote users who have > transient IP addresses? A lot of ISPs use Imail. And a lot of big ISPs require the use of SMTP authentication, no matter what flavor of mail server they use. > Yes, and you probably will have to go through it many times more. I know that what we will have to do is > advise all of them to change their setting in all the email applications > and then turn the switch. The day we do I am sure I will get endless calls > from the clients who didn't bother to read the email advising them of the > change telling me they can't send email. If you change it, you will have problems because you (or your company) have been taking the easy road to date. If you do not change it, you will have problems. No one ever said that running a mail server will be easy. Besides, 500+ accounts is nothing compared to some mail admins that deal in the thousands. We here have only about 300 accounts and with the war on Virus, Spam and user incompetence, I spend about 8-10 hours a week on the mail server when I am not tweaking settings or testing.
