Attachments  are  not logically separated from the rest of the message
body in IMail's size limits, but in practical terms you can get pretty
close. Are they not working for you?
They're working fine. :-). It's more of a process issue as I have editors that would rather email the review documents (very large Framemaker files) instead of using the FTP servers.
We just had a thread on this on the IMGate list.

1. if people ask for really big attachments, then "do a deal" and tell them "ok. You get big file attachments, but you must .zip them". .pdf and Framemaker files are fairly compressible.

2. If you tell them "10 MB max" on their disk, that inflates in MIME encoding by roughly 4/3. So at your SMTP plumber's level, your limit needs to be 15 MB, not 10 MB.
